Fit Your Office Chair to Your Body Type… Ergonomically
No one would argue that having the right tablet or laptop is critical in the business world today. Every device you have needs to work efficiently since every task today involves technology in some shape or form. Another item that is just as important – that is often overlooked – is your office chair.
For many people, just as much time is spent sitting in that office chair as clicking away on their keyboard. In fact, if you’re spending 40 hours per week in the workplace, you could easily be sitting in that chair approximately 1,990 hours over just one year. You really need that chair to be ergonomically fitted to your body type.
Unless your office has incorporated standing desks, it’s important to know what to look for in an office chair. Yes, it’s nice when furniture goes along with the décor of the office. However, your chair needs to also work with, not against, the health of the person sitting in it.
Here are a few things to look for while you shop:
- Lumbar Support – Make sure the chair you choose has support for your lower back. If you look closely, you’ll notice that some chairs even have adjustable lumbar support that allows you to fit the chair to your lower back. Office Master’s OM 5 Series chairs offer ”Body-Activated Motion” (BAM) goes one step further. It doesn’t even have those cumbersome tension knobs. With BAM, the chair responds to the user’s body weight and adjusts accordingly. It’s so important to be kind to your back to avoid future problems.
- Adjustability – Why is this important? Almost all office chairs have adjustments. However, not all have multiple adjustments. Make sure the chair you choose can be adjusted for more than just height. The best chairs, like Hon’s “Ceres” Series chair line, have multiple adjustments. These chairs adjust to your body structure in every which way for a chair that’s as comfortable as it gets.
- Wheel Base – This is a small detail that not everyone would think to look for. Almost all office chairs will have a wheelbase, but you need will need to make sure the chair will work on your office floor. If you have carpet, you will need to get a chair with wheels specifically made for carpet.
- Fabric – Another small detail is to make sure the fabric you choose is breathable for heat prevention. No one wants to sit for hours in a chair that captures and even increases the temperature of a room. We love 9 to 5’s “Luna” series task chairs, not only for its mesh breathability but also because the seat has a generous cushion to comfortably support you.
